When we developed our Nespresso capsules we wanted to ensure the "Full Life Cycle" of the capsule was as environmentally friendly as possible.
We are very proud of our capsules, they are made by rescuing a waste product from the paper industry called Lignin. The paper industry cannot use this waste product so they end up sending it for incineration.
We jump in and rescue this waste product, take it to our partners European factory (this factory is fully Carbon Neutral, it is powered by Hydro / Solar / Wind energy, it is truly amazing) to repurpose it into our air tight compostable capsules.
The capsule is totally free from oil based plastics and composts best when placed inside your council food waste caddy. They will compost at home if you want to try this, although due to the drastically lower temperatures in domestic composters this process will be slower and take considerable longer! We are proud to have full certification from TUV Austria for industrial composting and the capsule will break down to absolutely nothing within 12 weeks when industrially composted.
If you are unable to compost our capsules there is no need to panic. Because they are made using a waste product that would have normally been incinerated and they are created inside a Carbon Neutral factory you have already played an important role in helping the environment. You can feel confident that you have had a far lower impact on the environment when compared to using plastic capsules or aluminium.
Also lets not forget you have helped support a small independent family business by purchasing your coffee from us, for that we thank you lots.
So kick back, relax and experience capsules like you never tasted before.
